6m AND DOWN Contest

Japan's VHF and up contest: 2100 JST Saturday to 1500 Sunday on the first July weekend, 6 m through the microwave bands.

Rules at jarl.orgThe rules are the sponsor's. This page holds the dates and the facts.

When it runs

First Saturday of July

  • 2100 Saturday → 1500 Sunday

Times are the sponsor's own clock in Asia/Tokyo, so the UTC instant moves an hour across a daylight-saving boundary. The runnings below are the resolved instants.

Operating

Modes
CW / SSB / FM AM
Bands
6m2m70cm23cm13cm3cm

50, 144 and 430 MHz plus every amateur band at 1200 MHz and above -- JARL's categories run 1200, 2400 and 5600 MHz and 10.1 GHz and up. The 5600 MHz band has no token in this catalog's band vocabulary and is recorded only here.

Exchange
On 50 MHz to 1200 MHz: RST, the prefecture or region number, and the power letter. On 2400 MHz and above: RST, the city, county or ward number, and the power letter.
Logs
no deadline or format recorded
Who can enter
Entry limited to JA. K stations may be worked but cannot submit an entry.

'2 参加資格 日本国内のアマチュア局およびSWL(アマチュア局の電波を受信する個人をいう)' -- amateur stations within Japan, and SWLs. All four of JARL's domestic contests carry the same clause. A JA station can be WORKED from anywhere, which is why the record exists; entry is the part that is restricted.

Where this comes from

Checked against the sponsor
Yes. The rule on this page was read off JARL's own published rules. Link last confirmed 2026-08-19.
What the source says
jarl.org, 6m AND DOWNコンテスト規約 (第56回): '1 開催日時 毎年7月の第1土曜日21時00分~翌日の15時00分(JST)' -- the first Saturday of July, 21:00 to 15:00 the following day. The 2026 running is stated separately as '2026年7月4日(土)21時00分(JST)から7月5日(日)15時00分(JST)まで', which the rule reproduces. Bands: '3 使用周波数帯 下表のコンテスト使用周波数帯および1200MHz以上の各アマチュアバンドとする'.
Recorded caveats
Eighteen hours, not a full day: it opens at 2100 and closes at 1500, so the overnight VHF opening is the point of it. Encoded as wall_clock in Asia/Tokyo because that is how JARL states it -- 21時00分(JST) -- rather than converted to a fixed UTC time by hand. Japan has not observed daylight saving since 1952, so the two are identical in practice and will stay so; the record says what the sponsor said and lets the engine do the arithmetic. log_deadline_days is absent. JARL prints a dated deadline above the rules for the edition in hand -- ALL JA 2026 is '提出締切日 2026年5月6日(水)必着' -- and the numbered 規約 clauses that follow state the dates, eligibility, bands, categories and exchange but no submission span. All four of JARL's 2026 deadlines happen to fall exactly ten days after their contest ends, which is suggestive and is not a rule JARL wrote. The same reasoning already keeps a deadline off JARL's All Asian records.

Something wrong? How to report it — a link to the sponsor's own page is all it takes.

Add to Google CalendarSubscribe (iCal)This record as JSON

Add to Google Calendar puts the next running in as a single event. It is one event, not a subscription — come back for the one after it, or use the feed below.

Subscribe (iCal) carries this contest's runnings for the next twelve months as UTC instants and keeps them current. Apple Calendar, Outlook and Thunderbird take this address directly. Its identifiers are stable across deploys, so re-subscribing does not duplicate anything: https://contestclock.com/api/ics?id=jarl-6m-and-down

Google has no working one-click subscribe. Paste that address into Settings → Add calendar → From URL. Google then polls it on its own schedule, often 8–24 hours, and that cannot be forced — so use Add to Google Calendar above if you want the next running in your calendar now.
